Why Storytelling?

 Storytelling is a powerful way to share perspectives, ideas, knowledge and culture. The stories we tell ourselves help make sense of the world we live in. They influence our feelings, actions, and sense of possibility.


For changemakers, storytelling offers a valuable pathway to social change. We can work in our local communities to surface insights and stories, use them to build strength, open possibilities, and light the way.

Here’s a step by step guide to how it works

Grassroots Storytelling Club is meant as something anyone can do with or without outside resources.


We offer support for storytellers to help with equipment or travel. Details below.

What is a story that communicates this?

When the group decides what they want to communicate and explore, then they discuss what story to use. It could be an interview of someone in the community, a made-up story, a story from Culture, something from history, or anything else you can imagine.

Next you get the community together to share the story. This could be a film night, or a performance, or it could be the group visiting neighbours in their homes to share the story. Let the story generate discussion and consultation, and open up space.

The aim of these projects is not to produce something for outsiders, but rather to create space in a grassroots community setting, for everyday people to participate, share and reflect. There are, of course, times where support is helpful to get things started. With that in mind, we can help with:
